How to pack a shoebox

I have been a Operation Christmas Child volunteer for a few years and I think that people once and for all should in easy terms know how to pack a shoebox for OCC.

 1. Find a Shoebox Start with an average-size cardboard or plastic shoebox. If you want to wrap it, cover the box and lid separately ( so you can open it.) Avoid cheap "dollar store boxes" if you want to get a plastic box get one from Walmart and make sure the lid comes off (not hinged.) And make sure the latches are sturdy (if there are latches.) I suggest 6 Quart boxes if you are getting a plastic box.

(For plastic boxes click HEREHERE, HERE , HERE, HERE, or, HERE.) Click HERE to learn how to "wrap" the in side of a plastic box with a bandana.  If you want to use a cardboard box make sure it's sturdy and you can go to your local shoe store  and ask for some.

2. Girl or Boy?

Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
Click HERE for Printable Labels. Cut the label out then tape it on the top of the box.
3. What To Include
A WOW toy- something SUPER AWESOME!
Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc.

School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

Non-liquid Hygiene Items: toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc.

Accessories: T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries), etc.

Crafts: Make your own items such as hair bows, finger puppets, and friendship bracelets.

Do Not Include

Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids (toothpaste is OK) or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

4. Pray

Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo.

5. $7 Shipping Labels

Donate $7 online and receive a shipping label to Follow Your Box and discover the destination of your shoebox gift. If you are not able to pay online you can put $7 in the box and just use a normal shipping label ( you won't get to Follow Your Box though.) Follow your box is where you can see where your box is going across the world.

This is what a Follow Your Box Label Looks Like.

6. Drop-Off

Take your shoebox gift to: 2300 N Country Club Road, Duncan, OK during National Collection Week, November 16-23. Or you can mail your box to:
801 Bamboo Road

Washington D.C.

We went to Washington D.C. and we had a fun time. My favorite two places we went to were:
1.
The National Postal Museum.
We saw the REAL stuffed Owney! (my pictures of Him were so bad I chose a statue of Him.)

2.
The National Cathedral.
It was SO huge! But it was under construction from a earthquake.
